For Valentines day I was going to take my girlfriend Jen for a meal in a nice Tex-Mex style restaurant, I was going to book a table for the night but something held me off. Something inside my mind said not to.
When Jen arrived at mine on Thursday night, the night before Valentines day, she surprised me with saying we were going to see Circus Of Horrors live the next night.
It was a good thing that I hadn't booked a fancy meal then.
This was the first time I was going to see Circus Of Horrors, and I had no idea what to expect. Of course I'd heard tales in hush tones from people and the dark corners of the internet, and Jen had seen them once before many years previous (and of course saw the Britains Got Talent performances). I was happy that I was going to see them, but not too overly excited as I didn't yet know what my feelings were going to be.
COMES THE DAY:
On Valentines, Jen and I went through to Hull, to do a little shopping and wait for 7pm to come to be let in to City Hall, to wait for the Circus to begin.
Around the side of the place outside were Camp Dracula and Captain Dan, the vampire and crazy ass dwarf.
For some reason we didn't stop to speak to them, I thought to leave them to it anyway as they were going to be getting ready soon for the show, plus I didn't want to intrude as I'd feel rude. I'm sure they wouldn't have cared either way though.
Then on the inside, Jen met The Camp for a brief moment as he said hello and something about her going to CEX, rather typically at the time I was having a wee and just missed him as I walked back upstairs.
As we waited in the bar upstairs to be let in, a few of the girls from Circus Of Horrors stood around handing things out. (I'm sorry I really can't remember what), we then queued up by the door to get in and The Camp came through and took photos with people. Why didn't I get one? I'm an idiot and can't share any personal photos with you all.
We were then let in.
We sat, and everything was set up.
The lights went off and Mummys climbed across the audience. One right between Jen and I. He sniffed Jen's hair, then stared into my face. I politely said hello, and received a kiss on my bald head.
Right then I knew I was going to love the night.
Throughout the night was many a different act. Beautiful crazy people back and forth, singing, dancing, balancing in various ways, pushing nails through noses, moving ribs, swallowing swords, playing with fire again in various ways, climbing out of a jar, and of course a dwarf walking around with a Henry hoover on the end of his penis.
I can't explain the amazement in detail as it would ruin the show. It's definitely one to go and see.
At the end of the first half, I thought it was amazing, the best show I had seen, and they only stepped up the game with the second half.
All I wish was that I had taken some photos beforehand and met at least a couple of them.
Next time perhaps.
I'll definitely be seeing them again and I recommend you do also.
You'll have one perfect hell of a night.
