It's not even a sequel.
But why does it have a 2 in the title then?
Ya know, I have no idea.
'Fright Night 2' is actually yet another remake, a remake of the original, and well.........of the remake....
Anyway, this time round, Charley is on a school trip to Romania. His new professor? Gerri Dandridge, a vampire. (Yes, that's the same as the first and remake, but in this one, Gerri is spelt different, and is FEMALE!!!!).
I know, who cares?
So Charley, with his best friend 'Evil' Ed, (Who is now just a dick instead of the funny kid he was before) try to find a way to stop Gerri.
Ed introduces Charley to the world of 'Fright Night', in this version a take on reality ghost hunting shows, but for monsters, and obviously failing. And wow, what a coincidence, the self professed Vampire Hunter Peter Vincent is in Romania filming.
Vincent is again a different guy altogether than in previous movies.
There are pointless tit shots, pretty much the standard for the vampire genre now, except for the fairy Twishite films.
There are countless continuity errors.
The acting isn't amazing, the best being some girl that was in Coronation Street.
But somehow, it still wasn't too bad a film.
So that's pretty much it.
IAs a vampire flick it works, not very well, but it works. It did have some really interesting ideas that haven't really been used in other vampire films before, or not that I can remember anyway. The best but cheesiest is the Bat Chatter Scanner as I like to call it. In other words, just doing what bats do to know what's in front of them in the dark, vibrating sound around everything.
But as a Fright Night flick?
No it doesn't work. To be honest, they might as well have changed the names of people, changed the title of the film and just said yeah it just has similarities to Fright Night.
And that's all I have to say.
In all, it deserves only a 5/10, it's easily a middle ground movie, and thankfully better than Dario Argento's latest vampire film 'Dracula 3D'.
I have to ask the question though, what would you hate more...
A shitty sequel that's not very secretly a remake
or
An alright vampire film that's a Fright Night rip off?
Either way, you get both.
